Thanks to the support of Stack Streaming since late 2015, audio broadcasts from the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s (MHSAA) major events have been commonplace for their vast and ever-growing online audience.

They first began working with Stack Streaming for the purpose of creating audio broadcasts of various tournament semi-finals and finals. Today, the sports they cover include volleyball, football, basketball, hockey, baseball and softball.

A private, not-for-profit corporation of voluntary membership by over 1,500 public and private senior high schools and junior high/middle schools, the MHSAA exists to develop common rules for athletic eligibility and competition.

Absent of government funds or tax dollars, the MHSAA were the first such association nationally to not accept membership dues or tournament entry fees from schools.

MHSAA tournaments are always high in prestige and attract in excess of 1.6 million spectators each year.

Around 80 games are produced annually by the MHSAA using Stack Streaming. These are directly available to listeners through the organization’s Championship Radio Network website, as well as for traditional radio stations to pick up for broadcast.

We are proud to offer audio-only options for broadcasters such as the MHSAA who do not require video capabilities, and it is clear to see that the use of the platform is providing a lasting benefit for both the organization and their sizeable number of online followers.

“Providing an audio broadcast of the game is important to the MHSAA,” said Jon Ross, director of broadcast properties.

“It helps elevate our finals events. Not every high school game has a dedicated radio crew doing those games, but nearly all of the MHSAA finals in team sports do.

“It helps create the image of a big-time event by having an audio broadcast of the game.

“In terms of benefits, it allows for people who can’t attend in-person to follow along, while also allowing radio stations to carry the broadcast, eliminating the need for them to send their own crew.

“It gives advertising inventory to the MHSAA to use for PSAs and sponsor messages, and creates an archived event that people can listen to after the fact.

“Stack Streaming is very easy to use, both in setup on the production end and for the user. The interface is straight-forward and easy to use, and we wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the platform to other organizations who are wanting to grow their digital offering.”
